West Ham will face Birmingham City in the third round of the FA Cup at London Stadium.

The Hammers will be keen to improve on their run from last year where, after an extra-time third round replay win over Shrewsbury Town, only led to a fourth round defeat at Wigan, marred by full-back Arthur Masuaku spitting at a Latics player.

West Ham, who last reached the final in 2006 – losing to Liverpool, have won the Cup three times, their final triumph coming in 1980.

They are the last side, in fact, to win the FA Cup while not playing their League football in the top flight as John Lyall’s second division side beat Arsenal 1-0 in that 1980 final.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini won two League Cups with Manchester City but never reached the FA Cup final, the sixth round being the furthest he has taken a side in the competition.

The tie will be played between December 4-7.
