Firepower: Delaney delighted to have Zaha back at the club

Wilfried Zaha gives Crystal Palace the “X-factor” they were missing last season.

That is the view of Damien Delaney, who believes the Manchester United winger can thrive after returning to Selhurst Park on loan.

“We needed to add more firepower,” Delaney said. “I was delighted when Wilf came back because he has that X-factor you are looking for.

“He’s not up to full speed yet but he nearly scored against Burnley. Then it is up to the rest of us dogs to see the game out.”

Zaha is one of five arrivals since Neil Warnock took over and Delaney believes strengthening the squad was crucial to Palace’s chances of survival.

“From January to the end of last season, there was barely a change in the starting XI,” the defender said. “We were lucky with injuries and suspensions and we’re not going to be that fortunate again. There are two good XIs now.

“The manager wants to be a bit more attacking and has brought in players who will help give us that without losing solidity.”

Palace are unbeaten in Warnock’s first two games and face Everton on Sunday. “We are only going to get better,” Delaney said.
