‘Ashley Cole actually asked if I was wearing a wig’

England's players were today the victims of a BBC spoof as they completed their training session.

Sportsround presenter Ore Oduba, wearing a blond wig and calling himself "Chad von Cheeseburger" surprised Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Ashley Cole and John Terry by addressing them individually in an American accent - the FA allows journalists into the Royal Bafokeng campus for 15 minutes to see the players on the agreement that no questions are asked.

But Oduba shouted at Rooney: "Wazza, Wazza" and when he found the Manchester United player ignoring him, he turned to the camera and said: "Why does everyone call him Wazza, when he doesn't even know his own name."

Ashley Cole turned and asked Oduba: "Are you wearing a wig?" As the temperature dropped after a week of warm sunshine, Beckham said: "You'll need to keep hold of that wig in this wind."

When Oduba asked Gerrard if he could have his captain's armband, Gerrard frowned and said: "Any time pal...any time."

The FA said they didn't want players to be upset by Oduba's zany remarks.

Oduba, 24, said afterwards: "It is all a good laugh, although the FA did check my accreditation and want to know if I had any right to be here.

"Most of the players were fine about it. John Terry laughed his head off and Joe Hart was very polite, even though he knew he was being ribbed."
