Heat will be on England, says USA keeper

Staying cool: Marcus Hahnemann

Marcus Hahnemann believes all the pressure will be on England when they meet the USA in their World Cup opener in 10 days' time.

Although Fabio Capello's men are favourites to top Group C, the Americans are full of confidence thanks to their performances in last year's Confederations Cup in South Africa.

On that occasion they beat Spain in the semi-finals before losing narrowly to Brazil in the final.

United States goalkeeper Hahnemann said: "We have way less expectations than England. They're supposed to win the World Cup and we're only expected to come second! We're pretty laid back, me especially. Nothing fazes me.

"We gained a lot of experience from the Confederations Cup, we played in the stadiums and had a great run to the final. That sort of stuff builds a great team spirit. We surprised a lot of people in the tournament and we're hoping to do the same again.

"Everybody is ready for this back home. We're getting a lot of press back home. The level of excitement throughout the US is pretty neat."

While England were training at altitude in Austria last week, the Americans have only just started sessions at that level at their base in South Africa.

The match will take place at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, which is 5000 ft above sea level but Hahnemann said: "We still have nearly two weeks before the game with England so most of that adaptation will be done in that time anyway.

The Wolves No1 also revealed how the USA coach Bob Bradley handled the naming of his squad far better than England did yesterday.

He added: "We had our second to last friendly (against the Czech Republic) and after the game the coach told everyone who wasn't going. We had a team meeting at two in the morning."
