Speculation over future Italian coach

10 April 2012

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has refused to be drawn on whether he will succeed Marcello Lippi as Italy coach after the World Cup.

Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport claimed on Thursday that Prandelli had agreed to take over from Lippi and that the Italian Football Association (FIGC) was just waiting for Fiorentina to grant permission.

Prandelli told reporters at Rome's Fiumicino airport that he was not taking any questions.

Fiorentina was flying to Toronto where it will play Juventus in an exhibition match next Tuesday.

Prandelli led Fiorentina to the first knockout round of the Champions League this past season, where it lost to Bayern Munich. In Serie A, Fiorentina finished 11th, outside the European qualification places.
