Youth Cup holders Manchester United defeat gallant Charlton

Ian Gibb11 April 2012

Charlton went down gallantly to FA Youth Cup holders Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford - after almost snatching a semi-final place with only 10 men.

Club manager Chris Powell watched as the Addicks came from behind twice, with a double from Tobi Sho-Silva, only to be denied by a goal-line clearance and brilliant save in the dying minutes.

United led twice through Jack Barmby, son of former England striker Nick, and Gyliano van Velzen.

Schoolboy James Wilson then won it for United as Charlton battled on with 10 men after a serious looking injury to Harry Gregory who was stretchered off. Charlton had already used all their substitutions. United now meet favourites Chelsea in a semi-final over two legs.
