Poor show: David Moyes is unimpressed with the Premier League

David Moyes has criticised the level of football in the Premier League.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss, now in charge of Real Sociedad, spent 12 years managing in the English top flight but told BBC Radio Five Live: "This year it is probably the poorest Premier League I've seen in a long time."

Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all went out in the first knockout round of the Champions League this year, and Liverpool didn't make it out of the group stage. They instead dropped into the Europa League where they lost to Besiktas in the round-of-32.

Everton, where Moyes spent 11 years as manager, were the last Premier League side left standing but their defeat to Dynamo Kiev on Thursday ended English interest in European competition.

And the Scot added: "Maybe we have talked up the Premier League more than we should."

"Atletico (Madrid) have had financial difficulties over the years but they have still reached finals. Valencia, Villarreal, they have have got quite far in the Europa League.
