When is the 2022 F1 World Championship trophy presented? Paris ceremony for Max Verstappen

Marc Mayo18 November 2022

Max Verstappen has won his second Formula One world title but is still yet to receive his official trophy.

F1 is unusual in comparison to most sports, which hand out the major prize immediately after the season finishes.

It has led to some atypical sights in previous years with Lewis Hamilton winning the 2019 title having finished second in Austin while he was not even on the podium when claiming the championship in Mexico a year earlier, forcing him to run around the track to enjoy a moment in front of the fans.

Verstappen claimed his 2022 crown in odd circumstances in Japan earlier this year with the trophy withheld until later on.

Here are all the details...

When is the F1 World Championship trophy presented?

The F1 World Championship trophy is presented at the FIA Prize Giving gala, which takes place immediately after the season ends.

It is typically set for the first Thursday after this weekend’s final race with the 2022 ceremony due to be held in Paris on Thursday, November 24.

Fans can follow the event live online with details to be announced ahead of the event, with highlights also available via F1’s official website.

Why was the F1 World Championship trophy not presented in Abu Dhabi?

As this season has shown as much as any, the end of an F1 race does not necessarily mean the end of the debate.

Appeals and challenges over certain stewards decisions or potential regulation breaches mean the FIA leave a small window for those issues to be mopped up before handing out the main prize.

What other trophies are handed out?

The Personality of the Year trophy will be awarded to the driver who is deemed by top journalists to have made the most exceptional impact on the season.

Fans will vote via the FIA website for the Action of the Year. This is the most breathtaking moment achieved by a racer and is also open to other FIA events, such as rally, F2 and F3.

The Rookie of the Year gong goes to the best driver in their first year of competing in an FIA series, voted for by drivers.
