The first event of the controversial LIV Golf Series enters its third and final day on Saturday.
The PGA Tour have announced that all 17 players competing in the controversial Saudi-funded, breakaway competition will be suspended from their events for the foreseeable future.
There is a $25million prize fund on offer at the Centurion Club near St Albans, $5m of which is for the team event, making it the most lucrative event in golf history.
This is the first of eight tournaments scheduled for the series in 2022, culminating with a final event at Trump National Doral in Miami in October.
It’s impossible to know what the field, or the concept as a whole, will look like by that point, but for now it is 48 players - including the likes of Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson - stepping into the unknown this week for the inaugural tournament.
Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel shot a fourunder 66 to take a three-shot lead over fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis in the fight for the $4 million individual first prize at the 54-hole event.
Both players are on the Stinger team which is leading the way to share a $3 million purse for the best four-man team.
