Haslam claims pole

12 April 2012

Leon Haslam will start the last round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch from pole position.

The Airwaves Ducati rider, currently third in the standings, had just recorded a time of one minute 26.558 seconds around the Kent circuit when the first spots of rain fell.

That ruled out any improvement for either of his rivals - Ryuichi Kiyonari, whom he trails by eight points, and Gregorio Lavilla, the defending champion and series leader who is a further point ahead.

Kiyonari, riding the HM Plant Honda, was fifth best (1:26.798), with Lavilla (1:26.911) starting alongside him on the second row of the grid.

Haslam's fifth pole of the campaign earned him the bonus of a £50,000 Audi sportscar, a reward for consistent speed during qualifying over the season.
