Henrieta's revenge bid fails

13 April 2012

Henrieta Nagyova failed in her quest for revenge at the Sarasota Open in Florida.

The ninth seed from Slovakia was beaten 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 by Patty Schnyder of Switzerland who advanced to the quarter-finals.

In their previous meeting last November, Schnyder defeated Nagyova to capture her seventh career Tour title in Thailand. Tatiana Panova, of Russia, also moved into the last eight, beating Gala Leon Garcia of Spain 6-4, 6-2.

Completing the first round after rain delays, Australia's Alicia Molik defeated American Mashona Washington 6-4, 6-4 and Anna Smashnova of Israel had a easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Russia's Elena Likhovtseva. In an all-Russian affair, Anastasia Myskina beat Alina Jidkova 7-6, 6-2.

The second-round clash between Meghann Shaughnessy of the US and Germany's Marlene Weingartner was postponed due to the rain.
