On his way back? Matthew Hoggard last played for England in 2008

Matthew Hoggard is in Dubai this week to launch his bid for a place in England's Ashes team.

The 32-year-old, axed last winter with 248 wickets to his name, starts his season at the Pro Arch Tournament determined to return to an England team unable to claim 20 wickets in any of this winter's Tests against West Indies.

Hoggard said: "It's going to be a big year for me. I've trained well and I'm told honestly that it's not a shut shop as far as England are concerned.

"I've got the experience, so it's down to me to show what I can do by performing well for Yorkshire. I'm looking forward to coming in off my full run-up and giving it a real go."
