Honda test role for Wurz

12 April 2012

Alex Wurz has stepped out of Formula One retirement to become test driver for Honda.

Wurz quit F1 after the penultimate race of last season in China at a time when he was driving for Williams.

But the 33-year-old Austrian will now support Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello for the forthcoming season, starting in just under a fortnight's time at the team's first test of 2008 in Valencia.

"I am delighted to be joining Honda at the beginning of what I hope can be a very exciting period for the team," said Wurz.

"This is an excellent opportunity to play an important role in the development of the team going forward.

"My three previous teams (Benetton, McLaren and Williams) have all been World Championship winners, and I hope to be able to contribute to Honda's ambitions.

"The chance to work with one of the best brains in F1 in (team principal) Ross Brawn is very exciting, as is the level of resources the Honda team have at their disposal."
