Frozen out: Robbie Savage

Sunderland head the race, with Fulham and Derby also interested in the experienced campaigner who is no longer guaranteed a game at Rovers.

Savage, 33, has started just one Premier League game for Rovers since the end of October and even failed to make the 16-man squad at Derby on Sunday. Advertisement Click here to find out more!

But Hughes has warned Sunderland boss and former Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane that he will have to stump up more cash if he is to prise Savage from Ewood Park. Hughes said: "There has been some contact between our chairman John Williams and Sunderland, but my understanding is that the offer is way below the value we place on Robbie.

"If they meet our valuation, I'll look at it, but I won't allow players to leave if I think that it will weaken us."

Rovers boss Hughes is flying in South Korea's top young player Yoon Bitgaram for talks about a shock transfer window deal.
