Injury blow for Kapo

12 April 2012

Wigan midfielder Olivier Kapo is likely to miss the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign after damaging knee ligaments on the club's pre-season tour of Austria.

The 28-year-old Frenchman was injured in the friendly against Hannover 96 on Monday and manager Roberto Martinez is trying to remain positive.

"It's actually better news than we first feared," he told the Wigan Evening Post. "We thought he had suffered a rupture but thankfully it's only a strain of the lateral knee ligament. Hopefully it's not a long-term injury - it could have been much worse."
