Injury could sideline Davis

Watford summer signings Danny Webber and Bruce Dyer are set to spearhead the attack against Coventry in tomorrow's Nationwide opener.

But the Hornets are almost certain to be without their third new arrival, Jimmy Davis. The on-loan Manchester United youngster picked up a groin injury in the 2-1 friendly victory at QPR and is expected to require further treatment.

Meanwhile, Watford's veteran goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain reckons that Division One is stronger than ever this season but refuses to rule the Hornets out of gaining automatic promotion.

Chamberlain said: "Wherever you look there's a lot of strength and depth. I think the top two might be a little bit far away, but you never know. Realistically, with so many strong sides around, you've just got to hope we can be more consistent."

Chamberlain expects to battle it out for the number one jersey with young goalkeeper Richard Lee this term. He added: "Richard keeps making progress and will be pushing me very hard, so I've got to make sure I put in decent performances."
