Ireland's troubled start to the World Cup was plunged into turmoil as Georgia went close to springing one of rugby's greatest upsets in their 14-10 victory.

Only tries from Rory Best and Girvan Dempsey, converted by Ronan O'Gara, spared their blushes in another embarrassing night at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Impressive Blois winger Giorgi Shkinin plundered an interception score for Georgia four minutes into the second half with the boot of fly-half Merab Kvirikashvili contributing five points.
