It's difficult for fans to follow F1, says Sebastian Vettel

Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel has suggested fans in the grandstand could be confused by the sport's new look.

F1 is radically different this year. Gone are the days of processional races, with grands prix so far packed with overtaking manoeuvres and multiple pit stops.

The claim now, however, is that the sport has gone from one extreme to another - too artificial now as opposed to the days when there was a supposed lack of overtaking.

That appeared to be the case in Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix as the highly degradable Pirelli tyres, the moveable rear-wing and KERS power-boost system combined to produce a potentially fake F1.

When you consider there were also 82 pit stops, the most since 1993, it would not be a surprise if fans were at a loss as to what was going on.

Asked whether F1 was now too confusing, that overtaking had become too easy, Sunday's race winner Vettel said: "Obviously every race is different.

"It's difficult to produce a tyre that is a two stopper everywhere because tracks are different. The real hard time is for the spectators in the grandstand. Sure, if they have a video wall in front of them it's possible for them to follow the race.

"But when you have pit stops every 10 to 15 laps, I think it makes it really difficult for the people in the crowd to watch and to follow."
