Janes is shining light after delay

Amanda Janes, the British No3, put a three-hour rain delay behind her as she defeated Latvia's Liga Dekmeijere 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round of the Surbiton Trophy.

The 27-year-old from Essex served 11 aces in a match lasting 52 minutes. She said: "I'm very happy, especially after the delay."

But Janes will face a tougher match today when she meets second seed Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico.
