Jefferies: Nais price won't budge

12 April 2012

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies insists the £2million asking price for Steven Naismith will not change even if the striker makes a stunning start to the season.

Naismith withdrew a transfer request last week and Jefferies, thrilled by the 20-year-old's decision, has dismissed suggestions Kilmarnock's asking price for the Scotland international could rise in the near future.

Jefferies told BBC Radio Scotland: "If he starts the season with us really well and impresses, and shows that he's worth what we're looking for, then we'll never change it [the asking price] because that's not fair to any club."

He added: "(If there is a suitable bid) we'll let Steven know and Steven will decide if it's the right move. He's really focused now on helping Kilmarnock and we're really pleased about that."

The Killie manager explained: "I watch this kid on the training pitch. He came in on Friday and he looked like a lad who had just had a huge weight lifted off his shoulders.

"He's withdrawn his transfer request, he's given his reasons, he wants to concentrate on Kilmarnock.

"There's still a month to go in the transfer market and I've told him if anyone makes that offer we'll let him know, nothing will change and he can decide whether he wants to go or not."
