Jewell wants Newcastle starlet Carroll at Pride Park to boost Derby's strikeforce

13 April 2012

Derby manager Paul Jewell is ready to make a move for Newcastle’s teenage striker Andy Carroll.

With Rob Earnshaw leaving Pride Park for Nottingham Forest and Kenny Miller heading back to Rangers, Jewell will turn to youth after abandoning his bid  to sign Rob Hulse from Sheffield United.

Derby are still hoping to sign  veteran striker Kevin Phillips from West  Bromwich Albion but Jewell is also keen on the 19-year-old Carroll - the  youngest player ever to appear for Newcastle  in Europe.

But Derby have ended their interest in Swansea’s Dutch midfielder Ferrie  Bodde who is wanted by Reading.
