Jon Wells is granted first-ever Harlequins testimonal

13 April 2012

Winger Jon Wells has become the first Harlequins player to be granted a testimonial.

The 30-year-old former Castleford and Wakefield player, one of only a handful of survivors from the inaugural season of Super League in 1996, has made 107 League appearances for the London club since joining them at the start of the 2004 season.

Harlequins coach Brian McDermott said: "Jon is one of a dying breed that will soon be gone forever - a player that was present at the beginning of Super League and has seen all its changes and progressions.

"It is amazing to think that any player can adapt and improve to a level that Jon has over a number of years to such a degree that he is still a regular within our starting team."

Wells will use his testimonial in 2010 to support the Melanoma Foundation, a charity which helps to fund studies into the causes, prevention and management of malignant melanoma.
