Jones unconcerned about record

Ryan Jones will equal a notable Wales international rugby record when he leads his country in Saturday's World Cup warm-up clash against Argentina.

With Matthew Rees having suffered a World Cup-ending neck injury and current skipper Sam Warburton rested, Wales coach Warren Gatland has turned to Jones as his leader this weekend.

Jones will match Ieuan Evans' feat of captaining Wales 28 times, but he said: "I think these are the things you look back on when your rugby career is over and you are telling stories in your local pub. The most important thing is if we can get a result on the weekend, then it will keep the momentum going. There is a great buzz around the camp."

He added: "The guys have put in an awful lot of hard work, and it's great as a player to see that coming through in a competitive environment.

"For those guys who were involved against England last Saturday (Wales won 19-9), I thought they were superb.

"The more competition we've got for places throughout the team, the better. The pressure is on, and the challenge is to come out on Saturday and have a good crack at it.

"It's not about going out there as 15 individuals to stake a claim for a place on the plane (to the World Cup). We've got to go out and perform in our units and collectively as a team."
