Kiwis promote Guptill as How fails to wow

13 April 2012

Uncapped batsman Martin Guptill has been called up by New Zealand for the final two one-day internationals against West Indies.

The 22-year-old Auckland player will replace the out-of-form Jamie How, who was dismissed for a duck in New Zealand's seven-wicket victory in the third match yesterday.

All-rounder Jacob Oram was also released from the squad to recover from an Achilles tendon injury.

"Martin really impressed on the tours to Australia and India last year with the Emerging Players and New Zealand A," said head of the selection panel Glenn Turner. "He's continued that form this summer since coming back from injury."

The one-day series is tied at 1-1 after the first game was washed out.
