KP passed fit for England

Kevin Pietersen defied a broken thumb to take his place in England's team for their one-off Twenty20 against India at Eden Gardens.

England, who suffered a 5-0 one-day international whitewash against their hosts, were today trying to salvage some pride - and to protect their new-found Twenty20 world number one status.

They also included fast bowler Jade Dernbach, who was dropped for the last two ODIs, and Twenty20 specialist batsmen Alex Hales and Jos Buttler. India, who won the toss and chose to bat first, brought in dangerous strokemakers Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan.
