Liverpool are set to provide free coach travel for supporters attending their Boxing Day trip to Leicester City.

The Merseyside club have taken steps to help fans who have purchased ticket for the game at King Power Stadium after the Premier League confirmed a kick-off time of 8pm.

A typically reduced Boxing Day service means no trains will run between Liverpool Lime Street and Leicester on the day of the fixture.

And so the Reds have moved to ease the road journey for those planning to attend the game, asking only for a £5 seat reservation fee that will be donated to the North Liverpool Foodbank.

Prior to confirmation of the fixture list, supporter group Spirit of Shankly had hit out at suggestions that Liverpool could be facing a late journey to Leicester.

A statement read: “Our biggest concern is that our Boxing Day fixture away at Leicester City could be 8pm - that’s awful - with public transport difficulties, the expense, late returns and beyond.”

However, there is little chance of change, with clubs having signed up to a collective rights deal knowing that their fixture schedule is at the mercy of broadcasters.

In footballing terms, Jurgen Klopp is likely to welcome the late kick-off time, with his side contesting the Club World Cup prior to taking on Leicester.

The Reds’ final fixture of that tournament will take place on December 21 - they will then make the long journey back from Qatar before resuming Premier League action on the 26th.

A further three days later, they will face Wolves at Anfield in a game that has been chosen for broadcast by Sky Sports and gives the visitors less than 48 hours to prepare following a Boxing Day meeting with Manchester City.
