John Stones is out of Manchester City’s clash with Sheffield United , while means Aymeric Laporte returns to the starting XI.

Stones was complaining about a sore leg after Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace, having only just returned from a month-long lay off with a hamstring injury.

That means Laporte is back after recovering from from knee ligament damage for his first action after five months on the sidelines.

Benjamin Mendy and David Silva are out for City, meaning there is ​no rest for Raheem Sterling despite a busy festive schedule and with the return of the Champions League on the horizon.
