Massa and Raikkonen lead the way

12 April 2012

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen secured a Ferrari one-two in the second practice session for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Ferrari are pre-season favourites after an impressive winter testing period, and Massa continued his fine form from the off-season by setting the fastest lap time of one minute 27.353 seconds.

Team-mate Raikkonen, who had become the first driver to be fined in 2007 after exceeding the pit-lane speed limit in the first practice session, was 0.397secs behind in second place. Exciting prospect Lewis Hamilton finished third, clocking 1:27.829.

Hamilton's McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso, who enjoyed the fastest lap in the first session, was seventh with 1:28.040.

Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella finished fourth, while his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen was 18th.

BMW-Sauber's Nick Heidfeld and Williams' Alex Wurz made up the rest of the top six after clocking 1:27.970 and 1:27.981 respectively.

Red Bull's David Coulthard finished 10th, one place ahead of Super Aguri's Anthony Davidson, while Jenson Button finished 14th, one ahead of his Honda team-mate Rubens Barrichello.
