McCann ruled out for Clarets

12 April 2012

Burnley midfielder Chris McCann could be sidelined for up to three months after a scan on a knee injury.

McCann suffered the setback on Saturday, damaging medial ligaments during the 3-1 victory against Sunderland.

Manager Owen Coyle said: "Chris has suffered a bad injury and I would expect him to be out for a minimum of two to three months. He has damaged his medial ligament. It's very unfortunate and a body blow for him."

He added: "That's where my thoughts are because whenever he has been available he has been in my team.

"I think the world of him, both as a player and as a lad and the good thing is he is at such a young age he will come back better and stronger for it."

Coyle was upbeat about the role McCann still had to play in the Claret's season.

"There is no doubt that he is a Premier League player and he will come back bigger and better for it," Coyle said.

"We will look to make sure that he gets the best treatment possible, the best rehab and it gives someone in the meantime the chance to play in that jersey.

"He is an integral part of the group and that will continue to be the case. He still has to recognise that he has a big part to play in this Premier League season.

"If we are talking about three months he should be back in December and then he will still have another five or six months to play in the Premier League. You have to look ahead to that and be positive."
