AC Milan are on the verge of signing Alberto Aquilani on a one-year loan deal from Liverpool, according to reports in Italy.

Milan are hoping to land the Italy international as they look to bolster their midfield line before the start of the season.

Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia was in Liverpool on Wednesday holding talks with the Premier League club's executives in a bid to wrap up the loan move.

When asked about Aquilani, AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport: "We have taken a great quality player, right for Milan.

"Now our market is more than closed."

Aquilani, who spent last season on loan at Juventus before returning to Anfield earlier this summer, is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014.

Gazzetta claim Aquilani will be in Milan on Thursday to undergo a medical.

AC Milan begin their Serie A title defence at Cagliari on Saturday.
