Monty splits with his caddie

13 April 2012

Colin Montgomerie has ended a 10-year partnership with caddie Alastair McLean.

Together with McLean, the 38-year-old Scot won 31 tournaments, seven successive European Order of Merit titles and more than £12 million.

The split was announced on the eve of the Benson and Hedges International at The Belfry and the Ryder Cup player's new caddie is expected to be unveiled later today.

Guy Kinnings, Montgomerie's manager, said: "Colin feels a change is needed. It's not a decision that's been taken lightly. They're mates as well as being very successful colleagues."

Montgomerie has not won a tournament since the Scandinavian Masters last August.
