Moyes open to groundshare

Everton manager David Moyes believes the club would consider groundsharing with Liverpool if it was in their interests.

The prospect of the Merseyside giants sharing a new stadium has never been seriously looked into due to their deep-rooted rivalry but the subject continues to crop up as both clubs have struggled to initiate individual stadium projects and Moyes feels it is at least worth assessing its feasibility.

The Scot told talkSPORT's Drivetime programme: "It's probably something that if you ask people up here no-one would really want it. Who really wants to share a ground with their neighbours? But from our point of view we need something new to get some more investment in."

He continued: "There is a limit to what we can get at Goodison. It can only take in a certain amount of money.

"We've got very few boxes so we've got very little corporate, so I wouldn't say we would be definitely for it but, in the same breath, we'd be very interested if we got an opportunity to do it.

"I don't know if that's how Liverpool would view it."

Everton and Liverpool both recognise the need to move from their traditional homes to compete with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League.

Everton's plans to build a 50,000-seater stadium at Kirby had to be scrapped last year after the government rejected the proposal.

Liverpool have been planning to build a 60,000-capacity arena adjacent to Anfield on Stanley Park for several years but a lack of funding has prevented work commencing.

It remains to be seen whether the club's new owners New England Sports Ventures can kickstart the project.
