Murray malaise sees LTA chief miss son's Davis Cup debut

13 April 2012

Paul Hutchins, Britain's head of men's tennis, has been denied the chance to watch his son Ross make his Davis Cup debut in Argentina this weekend.

With Andy Murray's withdrawal meaning a heavy defeat is on the cards, the LTA have cut the numbers travelling to the World Group first-round tie and Hutchins is one of the few to miss out.

Missing out: Murray's injury has forced the LTA to revise their travelling plans

It means he will not see 23-year-old Ross, who is 88th in the world doubles rankings, step out with Jamie Murray for a rubber which, it is hoped, might have some semblance of competitiveness about it.

Hutchins was unavailable for comment but an LTA spokesman said: 'The rankings of our players without Andy emphasises just how much work still needs to be done back here, so it was felt that this was the best place for Paul to be and it was mutually agreed.'
