Murray through in Marseille

12 April 2012

Andy Murray made it into the second round of the Open 13 in Marseille with a straight-sets win over Dutchman Jesse Huta Galung.

The 20-year-old, who showed no signs of the knee injury that kept him out of Great Britain's Davis Cup tie against Argentina in Buenos Aires, secured a routine 6-4 6-4 victory.

The fourth seed fired seven aces and won 23 of 29 first-serve points as he dispatched Galung in 72 minutes in his first match since his opening-round loss to Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Australian Open.

The world number 11, who claimed his fourth career ATP title in Doha earlier this year, will play unseeded Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round after the Swiss player defeated Sebastien Grosjean 3-6 6-4 6-4.

Fifth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero avoided a third straight loss in Marseille with a 6-4 6-1 victory over Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee while sixth seed Marcos Baghdatis also advanced after a 6-3 6-4 victory against Arnaud Clement.

The other first round winners on Tuesday were unseeded Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Julien Benneteau and Russian qualifier Teimuraz Gabashvili.
