New Blades suit Warnock

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is delighted to have agreed a deal for Jamaica striker Luton Shelton - and has also confirmed the signing of Senegal defender Mamadou Seck.

Shelton, 21, will make a £1.8million switch to Bramall Lane from Swedish side Helsingborg once all appropriate clearances have been finalised. Warnock is pleased to have - subject to formalities - clinched the signature of the international team-mate of Blades defender Claude Davis.

Warnock said: "We've watched him four or fives times, and Claude speaks well of him. When I've watched him he's been playing with (Henrik) Larsson. He's done well in games."

He added: "He's got a lot to learn; he is very young; he is a good athlete and has good pace - so (I thought) he'd give us something different from the bench."

Seck made his first appearance for United on Mondsay night when they drew 1-1 with the Chengdu Blades, the Chinese club they own, in front of more than 10,000 at Bramall Lane.

Describing him as "big and strong", Warnock added: "I thought I'd give him a contract and see how he goes."

The pair join Jon Stead and Matthew Kilgallon in the January transfer window, and Warnock said: "I'm glad with what we've done.

"It's for the club to improve the overall quality. They all fit the criteria we're looking for."

Going the other way is striker Neil Shipperley, whose contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.

The former Barnsley and Crystal Palace striker scored 11 goals last season as the Blades claimed promotion to the Barclays Premiership - but he has not featured in the current campaign.
