New deal for Jones-Buchanan

12 April 2012

England international Jamie Jones-Buchanan has agreed a new four-year contract with engage Super League champions Leeds.

The 27-year-old second row, who has won three Grand Finals with the Rhinos, is now committed to the club until the end of the 2012 season and has been awarded a testimonial this season, a decade after making his first-team debut.

He said: "I'm chuffed to bits. I was a Leeds fan before I signed for the club and the past 10 years have been like a dream come true for me every day I come in for training."

He added: "It has been a long 10 years and a great 10 years and it seems to have got better and better as it has gone on."

The new contract supersedes a three-year deal which began only last year and comes just days after England captain Jamie Peacock also pledged his future to the club.

Rhinos head coach Brian McClennan, who also signed a new contract recently, said: "I am delighted that Jamie has agreed a new deal with the club.

"The Grand Final in 2008 was a great example of Jonesy's never-say-die attitude. Despite receiving a deep cut to his head his first priority was to get back into the defensive line to do his job and help his mates out.

"Jamie Jones-Buchanan gets the job done and yet when it is done he goes back to his community and is Jonesy again. He is a very good man and I am proud to be able to coach him every single day."

The Rhinos, meanwhile, are still awaiting the arrival of new signing Greg Eastwood.

The World Cup-winning New Zealand forward is yet to meet his new team-mates due to a long delay in acquiring a passport.
