One-match ban for Scholes

12 April 2012

UEFA have confirmed Paul Scholes will serve a one-match ban for his dismissal during Manchester United's Champions League defeat to AS Rome at the Stadio Olimpico.

Scholes' situation had been slightly complicated by the fact he was only one booking away from a suspension when Wednesday's game began and had been ruled out of next Tuesday's Old Trafford return when he was cautioned by referee Herbert Fandel for a foul on Christian Wilhelmson.

So, when he was eventually dismissed for tripping Francesco Totti, there was some speculation Scholes would actually be ruled out for two games but UEFA have now said that is not the case.

However, should United progress, Scholes will still be one caution away from another ban.
