O'Sullivan breaks road record

13 April 2012

Sonia O'Sullivan set a new world 10-miles record for women in the BUPA Great South Run, clocking exactly 51 minutes.

Mother-of-two O'Sullivan, the European 5000 metres and 10,000m silver medallist, quit the track last month to concentrate on road racing and is expected to run the New York Marathon in November.

She finished almost two minutes ahead of the second woman home, Commonwealth 10,000m bronze medallist Susie Power.

O'Sullivan finished 12th overall. Kenyan Simon Kisamili won his second Great South Run title in four years.
