Sir Dave Brailsford has denied a cover-up over the Josh Edmondson affair and says he has no plans to step down from his position as boss of Team Sky.

In March, former Sky rider Edmondson revealed he had been secretly injecting a cocktail of vitamins while at the team. Although team members found needles and Edmondson confessed, the incident was not reported to the authorities.

Team Sky insisted at the time there was no cover-up and yesterday Brailsford reiterated that stance.

“I’ve spoken to the people I need to speak to about it,” he said.

Brailsford has come under increasing scrutiny for, in particular, Team Sky’s handling of the mystery bag delivered to Sir Bradley Wiggins ahead of the 2011 Tour de France. But on the eve of Chris Froome bidding for a fourth Tour de France win, Brailsford insisted the team had done nothing wrong and had always ridden clean.

“I’ve been involved in this sport a long time and I’ve always tried to do it the way it should be done,” he said. “Believe in us, we’re doing it the right way.”

Some have called for Brailsford to step down but he said: “I’m going nowhere. I love it.”
