For once, Usain Bolt is understated

12 September 2012

Usain Bolt made a surprisingly low‑key return to Jamaica after being the headline act at London 2012.

Last week in Belgium, hours after his last race of the season, Bolt said he was nervous about going back to his homeland, where his countrymen celebrated his golds in the 100metres, 200m and 4x100m wildly.

There were no adoring throngs, none of his signature skyward points or other antics yesterday. Instead, Bolt addressed a few dozen journalists, business people and politicians during a press conference at his restaurant and nightclub in Kingston.

However, the ultimate showman could not resist the chance to talk himself up. “I am the best and will always be the best,” he said.

Asked if there was any downside to being a “living legend” Bolt responded: “I’ve just become a legend so I’ll let you know in a few days.”
