Tyson Fury has postponed July's world heavyweight title fight against Wladimir Klitschko after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Fury was scheduled to face the Ukrainian in Manchester on July 9 but has had to withdraw after picking up a problem while running in the Lake District.

The 27-year-old posted a video message to his fans on his Instagram page apologising for the late withdrawal.

"I've got a little bit of bad news for you all," he said.

"10 days ago I was running up in the Lake District and went over on my ankle, sprained my ankle.

"I've been to the hospital had X-rays, MR scans. They said its not broken but its badly sprained and to keep of it for six-seven weeks.

"I still tried to train a bit. I've had a second opinion a week later and I've had the same advice.

"So the fight will be being postponed. Sorry to all my fans to let you all down but injuries do happen - it's just one of them things."

However, Fury vowed to ensure that he is still keen to fight Klitschko, who he dethroned last November, when he returns to fitness.

"My apologies to everybody who has booked dates but the fight will be on as soon as possible that's all I know at the moment.

"The fight is still going ahead and as soon as the ankle gets better we will reschedule," Fury added.

If Fury is indeed ruled out for seven weeks the earliest the highly-anticipated fight could take place is mid August. Klitschko is yet to comment on Fury's withdrawal.
