Martin Kaymer in the hunt after ace

10 April 2012

Martin Kaymer's hole-in-one today ensured the German is hot on the heels of leader Rory McIlroy at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

World No4 Kaymer holed the 186-yard seventh in a round of 67 which left him just two strokes behind his Northern Irish rival.

McIlroy was denied the Abu Dhabi title two weeks ago by Englishman Robert Rock by a single shot - after incurring a two-shot penalty - and he believes his game is in even better order this week.

"I feel a lot more confident than in Abu Dhabi," said the 22-year-old US Open champion. "I kept picking up birdies and it puts me in a great position."

Meanwhile, Kaymer was delighted with his first career hole-in-one. "It'll be a good celebration tonight," he said.
