Pardew still hoping for Mullins renion but resigned to losing Young

Charlton manager Alan Pardew admits he is still keen on a move for West Ham's Hayden Mullins, but admits he's resigned to losing Luke Young.

Midfielder Mullins was reported to have been offered as a make-weight when the club were pursuing Darren Bent last month only for the transfer to fall through.

But Pardew said: "I like Hayden. He was my first signing at West Ham and there was talk of him coming earlier this summer. We will have to see."

But Pardew expects former England international Young to leave The Valley before the start of the new Coca-Cola Championship season.

The right-back, who turns 28 next week, wants to remain in the top flight despite signing a four-year contract last summer after a move to West Ham fell through.

"We've had a few phone calls about Luke," said Pardew. "I've got a lot of time and respect for Luke and I appreciate where he is in his career he wants to play in the Premier League.

"However, that's not always possible and I know that if we don't get the right offer then he'll stay and be as professional as he is. There is no bad feeling and he's not being difficult.

"If a decent club comes in and I thought the fee was right I'd let him go. I've obviously brought in a replacement already in Yassin Moutaouakil, who I feel is going to give real competition to Luke whether he stays or not."

But Pardew admitted a bidding war is yet to materialise.

"There are people manoeuvring at the moment," he revealed.

"In some ways I think he's a difficult price, bearing in mind his age and his England experience, so everyone may be a bit nervous to make that first bid.

"I'm sure when it comes in, two or three clubs will be interested."
