Parkinson: We can still escape drop

Phil Parkinson believes he has the squad capable of keeping Charlton in the Championship.

But the Addicks boss warned the club were in dire need of a winning streak after succumbing to a Dele Adebola double in a 2-1 defeat by Bristol City last night.

The result leaves the club nine points from safety, with just one win in their last 21 League games, but Parkinson (below) believes his players can turn things around.

He said: "We have the makings of a very good Championship side. There have been so many good signs in the last few games but we need to go on a good run to still be a Championship side."

On Monday, Graeme Murty extended his loan deal at The Valley by another month, while Tom Soares, Tresor Kandol and Darren Ward have all joined on loan since the start of the year. Matthew Spring was the other major signing in January on an 18-month deal from Luton.

All five started last night, with Soares heading a 29th-minute opener but Charlton then conceded two goals from Adebola at the start of the second half.
