Pascali proves point as QPR are downed by Kilmarnock

Italian trialist Manuel Pascali scored the only goal for Kilmarnock against QPR last night - and did enough to ensure he is part of manager Jim Jefferies' plans for the new season.

The Rugby Park fans had certainly made their minds up.

They gave the 26-year-old a standing ovation when he was replaced by Jamie Hamill 12 minutes from the end and Jefferies confirmed afterwards that he would be handed a one-year deal.

Killie also gave a home debut to new signing Conor Sammon but, although the young Irish striker also looked promising enough, both men were outshone on the night by goalkeeper Damien Rascle. 

The Frenchman, deputising for Alan Combe, was in outstanding form as the Championship side burst through the home defence with ease.

He stayed on his feet to parry a piledriver from Patrick Agyemang, after the striker had been sent clear, and he followed that up with a flying save to fingertip Fitz Hall's rising drive over the bar.

Then, when Ryan O'Leary misjudged the flight of the ball, Rascle denied QPR again by beating away Gareth Ainsworth's shot.

Killie's goal came in the 32nd minute thanks to Pascali's firm downward header from Mehdi Taouil's corner.
