NBA legend Patrick Ewing is now recovering at home following his battle with coronavirus.

Over the weekend, it was announced that the former long-time New York Knicks center and 11-time NBA All-Star was 'under care and isolated at a local hospital’ after contracting Covid-19.

"This virus is serous and should not be taken lightly," Ewing said in a statement released via Georgetown University, the 57-year-old's alma mater where he has also served as head coach of the men's basketball team since 2017.

"I'll be fine and we will all get through this."

News of Ewing's diagnosis was followed by an outpouring of support from the sporting community and beyond.

In a positive update released via social media on Monday, Patrick Ewing Jr revealed that his father had now left hospital and was recovering well.

"I want to thank all of the doctors and hospital staff for taking care of my father during his stay, as well as everyone who has reached out with thoughts and prayers to us and since his diagnosis" Ewing Jr wrote on Twitter.

"My father is now home and getting better. We'll continue to watch his symptoms and follow the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines.

"I hope everyone continues to stay safe and protect yourselves and your loved ones."

The United States has now seen more than 1.6 million confirmed infections during the Covid-19 pandemic, with over 98,000 deaths.
