Preston confirm Pompey bid

Preston chairman Derek Shaw has confirmed that Portsmouth have made a bid for star striker Ricardo Fuller.

Fuller had a transfer request accepted earlier this week and looks close to ending his successful two-year stay at Deepdale.

But Shaw is surprised the identity of the club chasing Fuller has appeared in the media.

He told the club's official website www.pnefc.net: "We have received a bid. But we had a written request from the club asking us not to reveal any details, so I was very surprised to see the information in the press.

"We are led to believe that Ricardo and his agent will meet with the club in the next couple of days, but we are not going to discuss this any further at the moment as if the situation were reversed we would not be happy.

"We know the details of the bid were not released by Portsmouth."
