Proteas struggle after India fightback

12 April 2012

India's bowlers hit back after South Africa had made a promising start to the third Test in Kanpur to skittle the tourists for 265 by stumps on day one.

Openers Neil McKenzie (36) and Graeme Smith (69) got the Proteas off to a solid beginning and Hashim Amla also did his bit with 51.

The South Africans were 152 for one midway through the afternoon session before the hosts hit back with three wickets - Smith, Amla and Jacques Kallis - for the loss of just nine runs shortly before tea. Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma finished with three wickets apiece while Piyush Chawla claimed two.
