Rain expected at Wimbledon with flood warnings issued for London

Rain clouds are expected over Wimbledon this afternoon with thunderstorms also a possibility on the four day of play.

The forecasters predict that rain could fall from 2pm this afternoon, while the high pollen count in the area also alludes to low pressure in the area.

It terms of potential interruptions to play, Kyle Edmund is due on Centre Court at 1pm for his match with Gael Monfils, while Novak Djokovic is also on Court One at that time. Elsewhere, Roger Federer’s match with Dusan Lajovic is expected to start around 3.45pm.

Further rain is also expected from 6pm.

The Met Office has released a yellow warning or rain for Greater London.

“Isolated thunderstorms are likely to develop across parts of England and Wales from early Thursday morning before clearing by early Friday.

“While these storms may miss many places, where they do develop intense downpours are likely, bringing the threat of sudden flooding of roads, transport routes, homes and businesses. Lightning and hail may be additional hazards.”
