Rangers confirm they have rejected bid for star striker Boyd

13 April 2012

Rangers have confirmed they have rejected an offer for striker Kris Boyd.

The Scottish giants have not identified the bidding club, although 24-year-old Boyd has reportedly been the subject of a £2.5million offer from last season's FA Cup finalists Cardiff.

A statement from Rangers read: 'In light of media reports today, Rangers
Football Club can confirm we have received a bid for striker Kris Boyd which was
rejected.'

Cardiff could be willing to pay above £2.5million if manager Dave Jones decides
Boyd is the man who should lead his attack next season.

A move to Ninian Park would see Boyd join former Rangers players Steven Thompson and Gavin Rae, but he could take some persuading to switch to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Boyd netted 25 goals for Rangers last season despite making just 23 starts and had a major role to play in the capture of both the CIS and Scottish Cups.

But his failure to hold down a regular place in Walter Smith's plans led to talk he could be set for a summer move.

However, the player reiterated earlier this week his desire to stay at Ibrox and fight for his place, despite the recruitment of three new forwards so far.

Kenny Miller, Andrius Velicka and Kyle Lafferty have all agreed to join the Glasgow giants, bringing the club's total number of senior strikers to eight ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile Rangers forward Alan Gow has turned down the chance to join Burnley.

The 25-year-old former Falkirk player, who joined Rangers last summer, had been
in negotiations to move south.

But he could not agree terms with Coca-Cola Championship club Burnley, who had
hoped he would move to Turf Moor as part of the deal which has taken Lafferty to Ibrox.

Unless the Scotland B star's move can be revived, Rangers will have to pay Burnley an additional sum as part of the Lafferty package, having initially offered Gow in part-exchange.

Gow's agent Phil McTaggart said: 'Alan will be back at Rangers next season and will report for pre-season training next Wednesday to try and force his way into Walter Smith's plans.

'There has been a great deal of talk about Alan leaving but he's opted to remain where he is and prove himself after a disappointing first season at the club."
